Week 39

Week 39 should be exciting, as we'll be launching a 2nd game to run alongside Question Everything: the Shotgun Betty Blast!

In conjuction with LoneRider Brewing Co. in Raleigh, NC, we'll be doing 10 gun-slingin', beer-swiggin', Wild West trivia Qs per day between the hours of 9:00am and 7:00pm EST (or 6:00am to 4:00pm for you Left Coasters). Head over to the My Games section to join.

Of course, Question Everything will run every week day as well (12 Qs from 8:00am to 8:00pm on the Pacific rim, or 11:00am to 11:00pm on the Atlantic) with five new themes:
  • Monday - 90's Movie Quotes: You can't handle the truth of 1990s cinema! Okay, that's more of a paraphrase than a direct quote, but you get the gist.
  • Tuesday - Life in the Fast Food Lane: While the Shotgun Betty Blast celebrates the Old West, Tuesday's QE celebrates America's revved-up, tricked-out, full throttle modern culture and the food that goes with it.
  • Wednesday - The Invasion Will Be Televised: Extraterrestrials may or may not have landed on Earth, but they've certainly taken hold of some of our most cherished films and TV shows. We'll take you on a 12-Q journey from Alf to Zorg.
  • Thursday - The Atomic Age: August 6th marks the 64th Anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. For better and for worse, the world was suddenly dropped into the age of the atom.
  • Friday - Action Figure Tea Party: When GI Joe was introduced in 1964, suddenly boys had dolls... er, action figures... to play with, too. A 12-Q look at some cherished pieces of plastic.

Week 38 Themes

Themes for Week 38, beginning this Monday, July 27th.
  • Monday - Perfection: The sports world was abuzz during last week's perfect game. It got us thinking about perfection in the world. So, we decided to serve up 12 "perfect" Qs... and every player who goes a perfect 12-for-12 today receives a T-shirt!
  • Tuesday - Who's the boss?: Think you know your government and its myriad of departments? G-Men come in all shapes and sizes.
  • Wednesday - All's Fair in the World's Fair: If necessity is mother of invention, then world expositions are some kind of crazy uncle.
  • Thursday - How Arts Thou?: A day of art, from architecture to Z-Trip, in 12 Qs.

Good News, Bad News

Hey all. Mike here.

I'm gonna start with the bad news, 'cus that's just how I roll. Here we go...

To our players who were looking forward to meeting us at Comic-Con, we are very sorry, but because of our schedules this year, we will not be able to make it to the convention. Yes, unfortunately this means we have to cancel the meet-up. I know. We are just as disappointed, as we were looking forward to meeting our longtime players and new faces. Would it make you feel better if we said you could borrow our Stormtrooper outfits? (Just as long as you get them laundered, k?)

Ok, now get excited for the good news...

Starting in August, we're going to begin hosting meet-ups around the Los Angeles area. Since we all love playing Ringorang together we're going to take it one step further and meet up in the real world. I know. Shocking!

We're thinking it'd be a lot fun to get a group together every month or so and crash various trivia games going on at local bars and restaurants. We'll all wear our Ringorang T-shirts and play collectively as "Team Ringorang." It'll be a great way to get to know all our SoCal players better and for you to get to know us. Plus, it's trivia. You can't go wrong with your 'Ps' and 'Qs' (Pints and Questions).

There's a few places we already have in mind in the San Fernando Valley and in Hollywood area. Perhaps the first meet-up will be in a central place so it's easy for everyone to attend. From there, we'll branch out to other joints throughout Los Angeles and Orange Counties. Oh! And by all means, share with us your favorite locale and when they host trivia nights. We'll do our best to schedule an event there.

If you're not 21 or older, we would be more than happy to meet up at trivia competitions outside of bars. Maybe libraries? Or schools? Let us know.

Also, to our Seattle players and anywhere else where a lot of you know each other, please feel free to assemble as "Team Ringorang" and kick some major behind. We're counting on you to represent!

So how 'bout it? Who's down with trivia nights!? :)

Week 37 Daily Themes

There's a lot happening this week. Moon landing anniversaries, comic conventions, and the sun rising until the air reaches temperatures that make folks in super hero costumes a tad uncomfortable. July has it all!

And we have it, too, but in trivia form! The themes for Week 37, beginning on Monday, July 20th:
  • Monday - Apollo 11: It's the 40th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, which you can also follow "live" at http://wechoosethemoon.org.
  • Tuesday - Impotent Potables: Who says cocktails need alcohol?
  • Wednesday - New York, NY: 12 Qs about the Big Apple.
  • Thursday - Super heroes: Not going to Comic-Con with the rest of the 407th? Don't let your DIY stormtrooper outfit just sit there and collect dust! Play some geeky trivia!
  • Friday - Ice Cream: It's July. It's hot. It's National Ice Cream Month.

The Celebrate Summer the French Way trivia game is still on through the 18th, including this weekend. And beginning on Monday, Question Everything returns with five new daily themes:

  • Tuesday - Baseball: It's Bastille Day in France. Which means we're celebrating baseball... AMERICA! (MLB's All-Star Game is today, too.)
  • Wednesday - Bad Boys: Did you know Al Capone was hunted down by Robin Hood? What, you haven't seen The Untouchables?
  • Thursday - The Beach: A day of surfing, swimming, and sunning, all in the form of a question.
  • Friday - SpongeBob: July 17th is the official 10th anniversary of one Mr. SquarePants. Go ahead, sing it...

Update on AIR client and game issues

We understand a few players have had problems the past few days logging into either the general Question Everything challenge or the Celebrate Summer the French Way contest.

We have made some updates in the past few days, including some to the AIR client. So, if you've had problems logging in, try reinstalling the AIR client by clicking here

And if it absolutely does not work, you can always play Ringorang through your Internet Browser. Go here for Question Everything or here for Celebrate Summer the French Way.

Remember, if you play through the Internet browser, you must leave the page open at all times, or else you will not receive questions during the competition. And you must have a page open for the game you want to play.

If you have any questions, leave them here in the comments or go to the feedback forum.

Week 35 Daily Themes

Week 35 of the All-Purpose Question Everything Challenge will continue with themed daily tournaments. This week...

  1. Monday - Gadgets: From handheld gizmos to the circuitry that makes them go, here's 12 Qs of geekery.
  2. Tuesday - 90's Song Lyrics: The rise of hip-hop, the emergence of grunge, boy bands, and Britney Spears. And Paula Abdul when she was cool. Yes, kids, she was actually cool.
  3. Wednesday - Summer Movies: It's blockbuster season. Why not some blockbuster trivia? These 12 Qs will cover the period from the first blockbuster (1975's Jaws) to today's sand-eating robotinators.
  4. Thursday - Video Games: All your base are belong to us.
  5. Friday - "Apple": Word association with the word "apple." Juicy fruits, slick computers, and... er, juicy fruits.
Did we mention iTunes gift cards? We did? I'll say it again: iTunes gift cards for the winners!

Did someone say iTunes? We did. We're giving some iTunes gift cards away!

Seems like when you say "iTunes" to some people, their eyes widen. They're amazed at all that can be bought. It's Christmas, but not really Christmas because you have to buy something. But it's inexpensive, so it feels sort of like Christmas.

And then there's always that surprise that stands out. That happened to me yesterday when I was randomly searching for a new album and found Decyfer Down's new album: "Crash." It was only $9. Wow.

That's not why we're giving away iTunes gift cards to winners starting next week. But think of all the albums or television shows you could get with an iTunes gift card. I was surprised to find out last month that the NBA Finals was available.

So ... as you play next week's daily tournaments, think of everything you want to purchase from iTunes. Starting Monday, the winner of every daily tournament will receive a $15 iTunes gift card.

We'll still be giving away a Ringorang T-shirt each day to a random competitor that plays at least three questions.

Have fun next week.

Meetup at San Diego Comic-Con

San Diego Comic-Con is coming up, and we want to know if you're coming.

It's July 23-26 at the San Diego Convention Center. We were planning some sort of meetup during the event, perhaps on the 25th (Saturday).

Here's the web address for the event: http://www.comic-con.org/cci/

If you're from San Diego or coming from out of the area to attend, let us know so we can meet you at the event. It's going to be really awesome, and we want to meet as many of you as possible.
